Derrius Guice is a running back I've seen mocked to Seattle at 18. Good looking prospect but many don't want a RB with the 1st pick. I'm not totally against it if the guy has exceptional talent. Todd Gurley kind of stuff. He is being compared to Saquon Barkley and favorably except they say he doesn't have the speed of Barkley.
Derrius Guice declared for NFL draft.
I think I'd be ok with a RB in round one if he is a true difference maker. Wish I had a better feel for how good Chris Carson really is. A 4 game look isn't really enough.
My fear is that our OL is still too shitty to make the most out of a 1st-round RB.
Lynch was exceptionally patient and was able to shed blocks; a combo that is rarely seen.
In theory, already our line should be better next year than this. Brown will have an offseason with the team, Pocic should be starting. Britt and Ifedi will have another year of experience.
Also, I think we are hoping we upgrade our coaching or blocking scheme which may help. I can also assume we won't be trying to depend on a Jimmy Graham block. (In all seriousness, Bevell and Cable may have finally gotten themselves fired in the season finale when we ran a 3rd and 1 play designed to follow Graham's block...).
So I would think a RB would be ok, but I'd
be good with any number of positions.. OL, DL, DB.
I think I'd be disappointed at a WR, LB, or TE in the first.
I'd also like to trade back but this year that may not happen-- teams will know we want to do we negotiate from weakness, and we don't know how the board looks to the Seahawks. Last year they felt players 12-35 or whatever were graded the same so it makes sense. There might be 20 players with a first round grade for them this year.
For sure interested in trading at least one veteran for picks and cap space.
Thought we could use some Guice Highlights!
Side note: Is putting highlights to music the way its done now? I couldn't find any highlight vids with the announcers calls. Anyways, there are some f-bombs and such so NSFW.
Everyone reckons themselves a videographer these days.. like how 1/10 of the people on my friends FB list call themselves DJs.
Guice looks intruiging.. man I hope we find a way to get a 2nd and 3rd round pick..it feels weird to get one pick ..and then do nothing for a day and a half...
I really feel JS had a plan for the draft going into the Richardson and Brown trades. Not a clue what it could be. Maybe something in his scouting ranked 2's 3's and 4's all within a couple points of each other so moving up to a low 3 or a 4 would get the same type of skillsets in a player that a 2 would. Remember, these guys drafted Bruce Irvin who was off of everyones radar for the 1st round. JS's value system is off from the "Mainstream (Sports) Media". (That kinda felt sickening to say.) It would be much easier to move to a 3rd or 4th round pick. And hopefully a couple players are dealt for some more draft capital to make it that much easier to move around the board.
Just brainstorming a bit.
Guice looks like he runs with intent to harm. Which I like in a runner. From watching these highlights, I bet his 40 at the combine will hurt his draft stock a little bit. The plays where he had someone on his tail he rarely seperated from them and would get caught from behind. That said I could see the guy going +4 yards a carry in the NFL. I mean he's just gonna get bigger and quicker. Only his straight line speed won't improve much imo.
